Different types of haunting

Common haunting classifications

  • Residual haunting – an echo from the past that repeats, often without awareness of the living.
  • Intelligent haunting – a spirit aware of its surroundings and able to interact (knocking, whispering).
  • Poltergeist activity – disruptive, noisy and chaotic. Often linked to emotional energy.
  • Shadow figures – dark human shapes glimpsed in peripheral vision; cause remains under investigation.
  • Apparitions – visible full-body manifestations, often accompanied by cold air or faint light.

Not all hauntings are harmful. Many spirits are harmless observers who mean no disturbance to the living.
